Hi, welcome to the Things that Happen in Berkeley blog. It's a place for everyone that lives in, around, or through Berkeley, CA and have noticed that odd things happen there.
I come from a small town in North Carolina. Everything is very calm there and normal, at least by outward appearances. People there appear normal. They do normal things. They are very conservative. Not much exciting goes on.
I came to Berkeley, CA for grad school at the Univ. of California, and I can tell you, Berkeley is a very different place from my town in NC. Weird things happen here. Not scary or creepy weird, just a special kind of odd that's hard to describe. I've tried to describe the essence of Berkeley to people back home, but I always end up telling some bizarre story about a person I've heard about or seen or a story I've heard.
After awhile, I realized that it's almost impossible to get Berkeley across without telling stories. So many weird, wonderful, crazy, hippie, cooky, crazy, funny, happy things happen here that it's worth having a place on the web to write all of them down.
